Favorite Prom Photo Locations | Northern Indiana

Prom season is finally here YAY!!! This year though, with the late spring deal and all, the selection for prom photo locations is limited in Northern Indiana.

This post is going to save you from the stress of trying to think up a location perfect for your prom group along with the hassle of finding one to fit the current nature situation.

Here are a few of my favorite locations:

1. Downtown Goshen

If you’re okay with going for an urban feel, this town is such a cool place to use. There are lots of red/brown alleyways, so keep that in mind. The Courthouse is also a reliable location and they usually have flowers planted around this time, so you can always use those to your advantage. Senior photos always turn out great downtown Goshen, and prom ones will too, guaranteed. 🙂

2. Pumpkin Vine Trail

This nature trail that goes through Elkhart and Lagrange counties is used among many local photographers because it’s so reliable for good pictures. You may have to scout this one out before you use it though, it’s a pretty long trail and there are definitely different places along it that will work better than others. There are bridges along the trail as well, if you’re looking for those.

3. Krider Gardens

Middlebury, Indiana has a gorgeous garden that works perfectly for a fancier backdrop. While there may not be many colorful flowers there, there’s bound to be at least some greenery, which is one small thing that almost always get you good photos.

4. Defries Gardens

While this is not one of my favorite places to shoot since it’s usually always crowded and the lighting isn’t the most flattering, it is still a nice place to go for smaller groups. It has cool little buildings around the pond along with arbors too, for single couple pictures.

5. Downtown Elkhart

For a variety of urban backdrops, Elkhart is definitely the perfect place to go. I love shooting senior sessions there, there’s so many cool things I find every time I go. Instead of a majority of plain brick, many alleys are painted and are super fun.

Overall, no matter where you go, lighting in my opinion is probably the most important. As long as it’s good and the backgrounds don’t take away from the subjects, you’re all set for a great shoot. Happy prom 2018!!
